Namaste!
Happy New Moon/partial Solar Eclipse!

Lisa Dale Miller writes in her new Moon message:
"The New Moon in Virgo with a partial solar eclipse is great a time to consider one's responsibility to serve, heal, and educate others".
Since the new moon in the sign of Virgo, calls our attention to the healer, this is a time to question, analyze and shake out your old beliefs and see where in your life you need to attention for healing.
She asks us to look at our body, our mind, our heart: where is our pain? How much compassion and love are we willing to bring to bear upon that pain?
"The New Moon in Virgo is asking each of us to look deeply at our own inner agendas.
How much are we walking our talk? Are we teaching others to live better, healthier lives and still find ourselves unable to change your own physical, emotional and mental condition?"
I feel personally called with this one, especially since I have been experiencing major physical shifts and challenges within the last few weeks, during my travels and have been healing my body, cleansing and re-evaluating my core values, which have not been easy for me. But through some physical challenges, I was forced to look at my self and my health in a different, much broader way and really had to listen to what my soul is wanting to heal, so that I can move on in the grander scheme.

I see this New Moon as a great opportunity to let go of the old, become stronger through letting go and grow on a spiritual level.....surrendering to s.th. that is greater than myself.

Take a look at your life. Where can you heal on a even deeper level. Not only physical, but deep down to the core of your soul. Be really honest with yourself and enjoy the journey.

Blessed Be!
Tanja

AROMAYOGA TEACHER TRAINING

Due to many requests from fellow teachers, I am considering to plan an AromaYoga teacher training.
This is completely in the beginning stages of the planning, but I want to get the word out, to get an approximate headcount that will help me with the planning of this TT.  Ideally you would need to be a certified 200 hours yoga teacher or have a pretty regular yoga practice with background into all the asanas, sequencing and yoga philosophy.
This training will intensify you with a deeper understanding of the chakras, the use and application of April Aromatics AromaYoga products and the AromaYoga sequence and themes throughout the seasons, applied according to each chakra.
I feel that I would like to spread this form of yoga life style into other parts of the world and also want to be able to have substitute teacher that can take over my classes when I am not available to teach.
You will be able to get wholesale prices to all of April Aromatics products that are used during class.
The training would be divided into seven classes, prices and dates will follow.
If you are interested, or know someone who is, please get back to me with any questions.

What are chakras?

Chakras are psychic centers that lie along the axis of the spine as consciousness potentials. The chakras are not materially real and are to be understood as situated, not in the gross body, but in the subtle or etheric body. Repositories of psychic energies, they govern the whole condition of being. In the Hindy tradition they are usually represented as lotuses.

As kundalini energy reaches each chakra, that lotus opens and lift its flower; and as soon as she leaves for a higher chakra, the lotus closes its petals and hangs down, symbolizing the activation of the energies of the chakra and their assimilation to kundalini.

Each of the chakras, according to the Tantras, corresponds to one of the elements of which the known world is compounded. Muladhara represents solidity; Svadhisthana, liquidity; Manipura, the gaseous; Anahata, the aerial; Vishuddha, the etheric, or space.

This ascent through the chakras can be viewed as an upward journey through the self.

ARDHA CHANDRASANA:
HALF MOON POSE:

"When the moon shines, Brahman shines;
and when it goes, Brahman goes.
Its light goes to the regions of heaven, and its breath of life to the wind."
                                                                                                   Upanishads

Since the New Moon is so prominent today, I decided to focus on this rather challenging pose, that addresses most of the chakas as well.
The moon has a rich symbolic significance in yoga mythology. In hatha yoga, for example, the sun and the moon represent the two polar energies of the human body. In fact, the word hatha itself is often divided into its two constituent syllables, "ha" and "tha", which are then esoterically interpreted as signifying the solar and lunar energies respectively.

In Sanskrit ardha means "half," and chandra means "moon," thus, this is the "half moon" posture. This pose is also one the postures that are are sequenced in surya-namaskar (the Sun Salutation).

(are-dah chan-DRAHS-anna)
ardha = half
candra = glittering, shining, having the brilliancy or hue of light (said of the gods); usually translated as "moon

Physical benefits:

This pose is a highly effective strengthener for the legs and ankles. You have to sort of squint to see the half moon; try drawing a half-circle from the raised top hand through the lifted foot to the standing foot and supporting hand.

Trims fat all over the body" thighs, hips, waist, arms and abdomen.
Improves and strengthens every muscle in the central part of the body, especially the back and abdomen.
Increases flexibility of the spine
Corrects bad posture
Promotes proper kidney function
Helps cure enlargement of the liver and the spleen
Helps cure dyspepsia, and constipation
Helps to eleviate lower back pain, bronchial distress, scoliotic deformities, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder

Precautions - Fatigue, high blood pressure.

Step by Step

  •  Perform Utthita Trikonasana to the right side, with your left hand resting on the left hip. Inhale, bend your right knee, and slide your left foot about 6 to 12 inches forward along the floor. At the same time, reach your right hand forward, beyond the little-toe side of the right foot, at least 12 inches.
  • Exhale, press your right hand and right heel firmly into the floor, and straighten your right leg, simultaneously lifting the left leg parallel (or a little above parallel) to the floor. Extend actively through the left heel to keep the raised leg strong. Be careful not to lock (and so hyperextend) the standing knee: make sure the kneecap is aligned straight forward and isn't turned inward.
  •  Rotate your upper torso to the left, but keep the left hip moving slightly forward. Most beginners should keep the left hand on the left hip and the head in a neutral position, gazing forward.
  •  Bear the body's weight mostly on the standing leg. Press the lower hand lightly to the floor, using it to intelligently regulate your balance. Lift the inner ankle of the standing foot strongly upward, as if drawing energy from the floor into the standing groin. Press the sacrum and scapulas firmly against the back torso, and lengthen the coccyx toward the raised heel.
  •  Stay in this position for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then lower the raised leg to the floor with an exhalation, and return to Trikonasana or warrior 2. Then perform the pose to the left for the same length of time.                                  (exerpts from Yoga journal)

Beginner's Tips:

Many beginning students have difficulty touching the floor with their lower hand, even when resting it on the fingertips. These students should support their hand on a block. Start with the block at its highest height and, if your balance is steady and comfortable, lower it down first to its middle height, then finally if possible to its lowest height.

Modifications and Props:

Balance is always tricky in this pose for beginners. A wall is a useful prop, which you can use in one of two ways. Stand with your back to the wall, one leg's length away from the wall. Exhale and bend forward into a standing forward bend, then inhale and raise your left leg parallel to the floor and press the left sole against the wall. Start with your toes turned toward the floor. Exhale again and rotate your torso to the left; at the same time, turn the left leg and foot until the inner foot is parallel to the floor. Rest your left hand on the left hip. The pressure of the raised heel against the wall will help you maintain your balance. You can also perform the pose with your back to, and leaning against, the wall.

Variations
To increase the challenge of this pose, raise the lower hand away from the floor and rest it on the standing thigh. Balance solely on the standing leg for 15 to 30 seconds.
