AromaYoga Class: 12. June 2007
Aromatic
Greetings! Yoga and other News!
Have you
felt the energy of Mercury in retrograde slowly
approaching us? Well, on 15. June, the planet of
communication turns retrograde once again and will
turn direct on 9. July. Below is an article of what
that means and how it can affect our lifes during that
time.
There will also be a New Moon in Gemini
this week on Thursday 14. June. Click the link to the
left to read more about the New Moon
influence. _____________________________________________________
This
past week-end I had the opportunity once more to drive
up to Ananda Ashram, which is just one hour outside of
New York. It is place of peace and quietness and I
feel rejuvenated, especially in my mind when I return
to the city. I love the weekly meditations, every
Saturday, at 3pm and the readings with a very special
woman: Joan Suval. She is passing on the teaching of
the late guru "Shri Brahmananda". Joans meditation
classes are a great way to get introduced to
meditation if you are new to it. She also comes to NYC
once a month. If you have time, I highly recommend
to make the trip upstate. You can also take yoga
classes there and enjoy the beautiful energy and
surroundings with a big lake and lots of green for the
eye. Click on the link to the left to read more info
about Ananda
Ashram. _____________________________________________________
Chakra

THE HEART CHAKRA: Before we end
our journey through the chakras at the crown chakra we
will be focusing this week on the Heart chakra. I
think we cannot connect enough on the chakra of the
heart. Below I will write about the Anahata chakra.

meditate and experience the oils and the sounds. No
one will be send away and there is absolutely no

Learn more about the
Chakras:
Here
you will find some helpful
information to educate yourself about the chakras,
before you come to class This link will explain in more detail about the
seven energy centers, the chakras and their importance
and impact to our physical
bodies.
What are
Chakras?
Chakras
are psychic centers that lie along the axis of the
spine as consciousness potentials. The chakras are not
materially real and are to be understood as situated,
not in the gross body, but in the subtle or etheric
body. Repositories of psychic energies, they govern
the whole condition of being. In the Hindy tradition
they are usually represented as
lotuses.
As kundalini energy
reaches each chakra, that lotus opens and lift its
flower; and as soon as she leaves for a higher chakra,
the lotus closes its petals and hangs down,
symbolizing the activation of the energies of the
chakra and their assimilation to kundalini.
Each of the chakras,
according to the Tantras, corresponds to one of the
elements of which the known world is compounded.
Muladhara represents solidity; Svadhisthana,
liquidity; Manipura, the gaseous; Anahata, the aerial;
Vishuddha, the etheric, or space.
This ascent through
the chakras can be viewed as an upward journey through
the self. _________________________________________________
ANAHATA
CHAKRA
The Heart
Chakra our "spiritual
heart"
A healthy fourth
chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have
a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
The heart chakra is
considered the bridge between the lower three and the
upper three chakra. It is midway, right in the center
of our body.
Below us are the first
three chakras which relate to things and activities in
the external physical world. Above us are the top
three chakras which relate to internal representations
of the physical world that are experienced mentally.
The fourth chakra, located over the heart, is the
balance point between these two extremes: the
integrator of mind and body, believed to be the
central home of the spirit.
Anahata
chakra has twelve vermillion petals. The Yantra in the
centre of the chakra is composed of two overlapping,
intersecting triangles. One triangle, facing upward
symbolizes Shiva, the male principle. The other
triangle, facing downward, symbolizes Shakti, the
female principle. A balance is attained when these two
forces are joined in harmony.
The seed mantra is Yam
and the vital breath is Prana. The presiding deity is
Ishana Rudra Shiva.
The chakra's
associated animal is the black antelope or
gazelle, symbolizing the lightness of physical
substance.
The heart chakra is
related to the element air and the quality of love.
Air is formless, largely invisible, absolutely
necessary, and the least dense of our first four
elements. Air is expansive as it will expand to fit
any space it is put into, yet it is soft and gentle.
So, too, is love. Love is the expansion
of the heart, the transcendence of boundaries, the
interconnectedness of spirit. Love is balance, ease,
softness, forgiveness. And love at the heart chakra is
felt as a state of being, existing independently of
any object or person, unlike the passion-oriented love
of the second chakra.
The Sanskrit name for
this chakra is Anahata, which means "sound that is
made without any two things striking", or unstruck.
This describes a state where we are no longer fighting
or confronting what we love but moving with it in
graceful harmony. The fight of the third chakra gives
way to graceful acceptance in the fourth.
Because Anahata is related to the
element air, it is accessible through the breath. The
Hindus call the breath prana, which means "first
unit," and they believe it contains the essence of all
vitality and nourishment, being the point of
commonality between the mental and physical worlds.
Opening up the breath, unloosening whatever tensions
are constricting it, is a way of accessing the
heart chakra.
Glands and organs
influenced by the fourth chakra: Heart, lungs, immune
system, thymes gland, lymph glands.
Some signs that the heart chakra is
overpowering your life can include co-dependency,
possessiveness, jealousy, heart disease, and high
blood pressure. The most powerful way to open,
energize, and balance not just the heart chakra but
all of our chakras is to love ourselves and others.
Unconditional Love is
the greatest healer. In our hatha yoga practice,
remembering what we love and appreciate as we practice
fourth chakra asanas enhances the power of the poses
and our general well-being.

Project 108
As the war in
Iraq rages, innocent people are killed and injured
daily. As citizens of this country, we can take action
to help mitigate the suffering in small but purposeful
ways. Project 108 is a fund raising concept that seeks
to raise money for the children of American and Iraqi
families who have lost parents in this war through the
practice of yoga .
On Saturday, June 30, 2007
at 7:00 am, Project 108 will sponsor simultaneous
events of 108 Sun Salutes in Manhattan's Central Park
and Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The number 108
carries spiritual significance throughout a wide
cross-section of cultures. 108 is also the
number of beads on a Tibetan "mala" (and a Catholic
rosary). Participants will join together with
their sweat, spirit and muscle in a shared practice of
108 Sun Salutes. Participating studios, sponsored
participants and online donors will take part in this
practice to raise money and focus energy on
transforming the lives of children who lost a parent
in the war.
This is an exercise in humanity,
inspired by the teachings of yoga. We are inspired to
help kids and counteract with kindness the damages
being done to them by this war. The funds raised by
our Salutes to the Sun, will be donated to Warchild, a
Canadian non-profit organization with the primary
focus of providing an opportunity for children and
other vulnerable community members to recover and
rebuild from the trauma of war.
The Cost of War
is Great, The Gift of Kindness is Greater. All
investments make a big difference. Any support is
welcome and appreciated.
PROJECT 108
SUMMARY
By coming together as a
community, we can demonstrate the power of karma and
make many lives tangibly better. Project 108 offers
yoga practioners and studios an easy way to exemplify
the teachings of yoga and taking part is hassle
free:
1) Hold/Set the date. Put the
date June 30th on your calendar. Join us In
NYC. We will be at Central Park (Mineral
Springs, Manhattan) and Prospect Park (Long Meadow,
Brooklyn) at 7:00 am. If you cannot make it, why not
dedicate a space, a teacher and yourself to the
effort. If the June 30th is inconvenient, but your
studio would still like to participate, please select
an alternate date.
2) Let us know. Please
send a reply email saying that your studio will be
participating. Include studio/school/center name,
logo, date (if an alternate is chosen), website, phone
number, city/country and a contact person + their
contact details. We will link your studio to our site.
Send your studio info to
netipot@earthlink.com
3) Tell people about it.
Get together a group at your local Yoga
Center, get sponsors and make a donation of your
prana, sweat and money. Tax receipts are
available. We will provide sponsor sheets
to help facilitate donations for participants. To
eliminate overhead costs, participants will make all
donations directly to War Child or the Project 108
website.
(I will be
contributing my 108 sun salutes from Hannover Germany,
Tanja)

MERCURY IN
RETROGRADE:
(forwarded to me by Linda Cohen, thank
you)
The major transitions during
each Mercury retrograde in 2007, provide . adjustments
needed for the completions and endings slated to
occur. The Mercury retrograde process becomes
important in the adjustments required for our journey
as 2007 is the of the NINE-year numerology cycle that
started in 1999. Mercury retrograde provides the
opportunity to adjust our thoughts, attitudes and
decisions and tie up loose ends from our old direction
to clear the way for our new direction to emerge as we
move toward 2008. The adjustments that are slated to
occur in 2007 are in Air and Water signs. The water
signs of the zodiac relates to our inner emotional and
spiritual world and the air signs require mental
adjustments and changes in our attitude during the
retrograde.
Mercury relates to thoughts,
concepts, ideas, and communication. When Mercury
retrogrades, we find that many parts of our life are
being revised. Often these revisions can be a surprise
or throw us back a step. However, these revisions
which occur during a Mercury retrograde, are a "course
correction" and provide a stop gap measure until we
can review situations. During this time of revision,
change is compounded and confusion is created by our
reactions to the ever-changing situations. Thus
anything started during this time will ultimately be
taken back or even revised further, making for a
high-frustration time.
The best mode to be in
during a Mercury retrograde is one of "non-reaction".
Treat the time period as a time of gathering
information, yet because the information will be in
constant change it would be like trying to comb your
hair in a wind storm. Best to wait until the changes
stop before attempting to make things orderly.
Therefore, just let the winds of situations blow
around you without reacting. Once Mercury turns
direct, take a look at the information that is still
around at that time and go about integrating it into
our life, while maintaining the fine art of
flexibility.
Mercury Retrogrades
occurring in 2007, touch into water signs, causing us
to review our emotions and our emotional connection
with our own self and the self of others. Then as the
retrograde occurs and moves into the air signs, we
must adjust our mental attitudes and thought patterns
to integrate the events and new information that
occurs.
The Mercury retrograde in
June/July 2007 doesn't go back into the air sign
preceding Cancer, it stays and hovers over the
emotions of Cancer, which require that we address our
true feelings. The intensity of June/July will demand
that we face our emotions. Instead of getting out of
the requirement it'll be a necessary step in this
transition process for the year of
2007
