| Next comes the harvesting. Very early in the morning, or even in the early evening, are the obviously ideal times for picking because of the sun, but, again, it depends on the plant for the specific time of day. The idea is that the harvest should end while the dew is still fresh on the petals. The stronger the sun gets the higher the risk of loosing the volatile oils of the flowers! The bulbs, leaves, grass, bark, whatever the items may be, are collected and prepared for the next part of their journey... |

Many farmers in the various regions are engaged in growing Rosa Centifolia and Rosa Burbonia for the garland markets. At the flower markets, early in the mornings, bundles of roses and various other flowers and herbs are sold to wholesalers.
Some plants are laid out to air, like roses, some, like roots and barks are crushed and prepared, and some materials are taken directly to the distilleries. Giant copper containers are the new home for the harvested items and hot steam is put to use and saturated through the plant materials. The outcome of this marriage is the precious water and oil which is immediately cooled to keep the vapors and consistency present. |
